Google Chrome (Microphone Permissions)

Overview

The Sharpen Q Phone uses your computer's microphone to transmit audio during calls. Because Sharpen Q runs in Google Chrome, the browser must be granted permission to access your microphone before you can make or receive calls. Without microphone access, the Sharpen Q Phone will not function. This article walks through granting permission on first use and resolving issues if access was previously blocked.

Granting Permission on First Use

The first time you use the Sharpen Q Phone, Chrome will display a permission prompt at the top of the browser window asking whether to allow or block microphone access for the Sharpen application.

Click "Allow" when this prompt appears. If you click Block, the Sharpen Q Phone will be unable to use your microphone until the exception is cleared. If you click the X to dismiss the prompt, the current call will not complete.

Once permission has been granted, Chrome will remember the setting for future sessions and you will not be prompted again.

Verifying Your Microphone Permission

To check or update your microphone permission at any time, click the lock icon in the Chrome address bar while on the Sharpen Q page. This opens a quick settings panel where you can view and adjust the microphone permission for the site.

Clearing a Blocked Microphone Exception

If microphone access was previously blocked, follow these steps to restore it:

  1. In Chrome, navigate to chrome://settings/content/microphone.

  1. Under Default behavior, confirm that Sites can ask to use your microphone is selected. If you want to use a specific microphone device, you can select it from the dropdown at the top of the page.

  2. Scroll down to the Not allowed to use your microphone list and look for https://app.sharpencx.com or https://app.iz1.sharpen.cx depending on your organization's URL.

  1. Click the entry and change the setting from Block to Allow, or remove the blocked entry entirely.

  2. Return to Sharpen Q and attempt a call. Chrome will display the microphone permission prompt again, click Allow to complete the setup.
