Setting up Zoiper soft phone

Setting up Zoiper soft phone

Overview

Zoiper is a third-party SIP softphone that can be useful for troubleshooting extension and call path issues within Sharpen. This article covers how to configure Zoiper with your Sharpen extension credentials for testing purposes.

Important: Sharpen supports the use of Zoiper for testing and troubleshooting only. The free Zoiper Community Edition is compatible with Sharpen on Windows, macOS, and Linux, but its use is not endorsed for ongoing commercial use. If you intend to use Zoiper in a production environment, you must purchase the appropriate license directly from Zoiper. The Sharpen Care team is unable to provide support for third-party SIP clients.

If you are on Windows and looking for a lightweight alternative, MicroSIP is an open-source option that is often preferred for its streamlined interface.

Prerequisites

Configuration Steps

  1. Log in to the Sharpen Portal and navigate to Admin > Configuration > Extensions.

  2. Locate your extension and click Edit.

  3. Note the following fields — keep this page open to copy from during setup:

    • Username

    • Password

    • Server Address

  4. Open Zoiper 5, selecting “Continue as a Free user.”

  1. Enter the Username and Password from your Sharpen extension page, then click Login.

  1. In the Server Address field, enter your server address using the following modified format:

    • Remove the segment between the subdomain and the domain root.

    • Example: If your server address on the Extensions page is us1.vbx555.09.f.sipvbx.com, enter us1.vbx555.sipvbx.com in Zoiper.

  1. Skip the Optional Authentication and Outbound Proxy configuration screens.

  1. During the connection test, you should see "Found" next to SIP UDP. Other protocols may show as failed, this is expected and acceptable.

  1. Click Next and follow the on-screen prompts to configure your headset and microphone.

Once complete, your extension will be registered in Zoiper and ready for test calls.

Please note that the use of third-party clients is not supported by the SharpenCare team.
