Polycom Provisioning
This article provides the steps to configure a Polycom phone to automatically connect to Sharpen.
Pre-Setup Tasks
Before starting the provisioning process, you should ensure that the following items have been entered into the specific extension page for the device you are attempting to program. This can be done via the Configuration>Extensions menu within Sharpen Admin.
Please confirm the following configuration has been saved for each extension you plan to provision before proceeding:
The MAC address has been designated and saved on the proper extension
The MAC should be entered strictly as an alpha-numeric string; do not include any colon characters in this field (i.e. 00:F3:62:B1:7A:03 should be expressed as 00F362B17A03)
Device type & device group have been designated and saved on the proper extension
If existing configuration of the Polycom phone has been manually set, automatic provisioning will not overwrite all settings (eg. A SIP server manually set will remain configured as that server). We recommend a full factory reset before configuring a phone for automatic provisioning.
If you are setting up provisioning for the first time, or with a new network, reach out to the SharpenCare team at support.sharpencx.com. Provisioning will fail until all necessary pre-configuration steps have bene taken by our team for your network.

Re-provisioning from another provider
If you are provisioning a Polycom phone that was previously used on another provider, you will need to make sure that the phone has been completely reset to Factory Defaults. Otherwise, the previous configuration may interfere with our provisioning process. If you are unable to perform a full Factory Default on the phone you are attempting to provision, try the following steps:
Locate the MAC Address of the phone you are working with and write it down. (Example MAC Address: 0004F2XXXXXX)
Remove power from the phone.
While the phone is powering back up, do the following:
For VVX series (VVX300, 301, 310, 311, etc): press and hold 1 3 5 keys on the dial pad at the same time
For SoundPoint IP 331, 335, & 450: press and hold the 1, 3, 5, and 7 keys on the dial pad at the same time
For SoundPoint IP 550, 650, 5000, & 7000: press and hold the 4, 6, 8, & * keys on the dial pad at the same time
For IP 6000: press and hold the 6, 8, and * keys on the dial pad at the same time
Continue holding down the keys until you are prompted to enter the admin password.
Enter the MAC Address of the phone (letters should be entered as lower case). To use letters, try one of the following:
Press the # key to get into alpha mode
on VVX series phone, press "mode" to switch to alpha mode
IP Series press the option 1/A/a to switch to alpha mode.
You should now be able to access the phone using the default admin password of "6311" and continue with the provisioning process.
