Configuring OKTA in Sharpen

Configuring OKTA within Sharpen requires setup through the Sharpen store. Sharpen Store setup requires the entry of the Okta Subdomain, App Metadata URL, and the Connect Metadata URL. These data points are retrieved from the configured Sharpen apps within Okta.

Steps to configure

  1. Navigate to the Sharpen Store

  2. Click “Okta SSO”

  3. Click “Configure and Install”

  4. Enter the following details

    1. Okta Subdomain (e.g. sharpentest.okta.com)

    2. App Metadata URL - This link is generated by following these steps

      1. Login to your admin portal (e.g. sharpentest-admin.okta.com)

      2. Navigate to Applications tab

      3. Click Add Application

      4. Search for Sharpen

      5. Click Add

      6. Leave defaults and make sure Instance type is indicated as "Sharpen (app)"

      7. Click Done

      8. If you have active users you wish to assign the app to, then do so. If not, proceed to navigate to the "General"Tab

      9. Scroll to the "App Embed Link" sub-section

      10. You will see a URL, extract/take note of the instance ID (underlined in purple) such as the following

        1. e.g. https://sharpentest.okta.com/home/sharpen/0oabldfxeBhUFiHaS356/aln198kw22d3aREuc1d8

      11. Navigate to following, replacing the highlighted instance ID with the appropriate ID from the previous step and “sharpentest” with your subdomain.

        1. e.g. https://saml-doc.okta.com/SAML_Docs/How-to-Configure-SAML-2.0-for-Sharpen.html?baseAdminUrl=https://sharpentest-admin.okta.com&app=sharpen&instanceId=0oabldfxeBhUFiHaS356

      12. From the resulting page load, copy the URL string from the "Metadata URL" section.

        1. e.g. https://sharpentest.okta.com/app/exkbldfxdBkuM7dbj356/sso/saml/metadata

      13. Paste this URL into the "App Metadata URL" field in the Sharpen Store setup

    3. Connect Metadata URL

      1. Return to OKTA admin portal and navigate to Applications tab

      2. Click Add Application

      3. Search for Sharpen

      4. Click Add

      5. Leave defaults and make sure Instance type is indicated as "Sharpen Connect (connect)" and the Application Label is something recognizable

      6. Click Done

      7. If you have active users you wish to assign the app to, then do so. If not, proceed to navigate to the "General"Tab

      8. Scroll to the "App Embed Link" sub-section

      9. You will see a URL, extract/take note of the instance ID such as the following

        1. e.g. https://sharpentest.okta.com/home/sharpen/0oabldqgwyJAgANx2356/aln198kw22d3aREuc1d8

      10. Navigate to following, replacing the highlighted instance ID with the appropriate ID from the previous step

        1. e.g. https://saml-doc.okta.com/SAML_Docs/How-to-Configure-SAML-2.0-for-Sharpen.html?baseAdminUrl=https://sharpentest-admin.okta.com&app=sharpen&instanceId= 0oabldqgwyJAgANx2356

      11. From the resulting page load, copy the URL string from the "Metadata URL" section.

        1. e.g. https://sharpentest.okta.com/app/exkbldqgv7LsXXJ54356/sso/saml/metadata

      12. Paste this URL into the "Connect Metadata URL" field in the Sharpen Store setup

  5. Click “Verify”

    1. If Verification does not succeed. Please double check all inputs are accurate in accordance with your Okta setup. If inputs are validated to be correct, please contact SharpenCare for assistance.
