Updating Your Outbound Caller ID Name (CNAM)

Overview

Your Outbound Caller ID Name (CNAM) is the name displayed to a recipient when you place an outbound call. Sharpen can submit CNAM update requests on your behalf for eligible numbers by completing and submitting a LIDB (Line Information Database) form to the Sharpen Care team.

The Caller ID name displayed to a recipient is ultimately determined by the receiving carrier's database. Some carriers may take longer to reflect updates depending on their own refresh schedules.

Before You Begin

Please review the following eligibility requirements before submitting a request:

  • Only submit requests for local numbers that have already been ported to or purchased through Sharpen.

  • Toll-free numbers do not support CNAM updates and cannot be submitted for this process.

Steps to Submit a CNAM Update Request

  1. Download the LIDB Template CSV attached to this article.

  2. In Column A, enter the telephone numbers (TNs) you want to update.

  3. In Column L, enter the desired Caller ID Name.

    • This field is limited to 15 characters, including spaces.

  4. In Column M, enter either Business or Residential to indicate the line type.

  5. In Column N, enter either Allowed or Blocked to indicate the CNAM display preference.

  6. Leave all other columns blank.

  7. Email the completed LIDB form to support@sharpencx.com with a note indicating this is a CNAM update request.

Please allow 5 to 7 business days for the CNAM update to be processed and reflected across carrier databases.
