Building a Report
Overview
There are two ways to build a new report in Insights: starting from a template or building from scratch. Both methods arrive at the same place, once the right fields are in your report, the process for sorting, grouping, filtering, and summarizing data is identical regardless of how you started.
Method 1: Start from a Template
Starting from a template is the recommended approach when you are not sure exactly which fields you need. You begin with a pre-built set of fields and can remove what you do not need, add what you do, and save the result as your own report.
Sharpen provides two templates to start from:
Default Segments Template
Includes a broad set of interaction and segment-level fields.
Interaction Summary Template
Focused on summary-level interaction data.
To create a report from a template:
Navigate to Insights.
Open either the Default Segments Template or Interaction Summary Template.
Click Save As and give the report a name.
Tip: Your saved copy is independent of the original template and can be modified freely without affecting the template.
Method 2: Build from Scratch
Building from scratch is the most efficient option when you know exactly which fields and data source you need. You start with a blank canvas and add only what you want.
To create a report from scratch:
Navigate to Insights.
From the Insights Manager screen, click New Report.
When prompted, enter a report name, select a data source, confirm the time zone, and apply any relevant labels.
Click Create.
Your new blank report will open and is ready for fields to be added.
