Sharpen Microphone and Audio Check
Overview
Confirms the microphone works, shows what the browser is actually hearing, and lets an agent play their own voice back. Most audio tickets come down to "Can you hear yourself?" which no article can answer, but this page can.
It lists the available microphones and speakers so the right one can be selected, shows a live level meter while someone speaks, and reports whether the signal is healthy, too quiet, or clipping. A five-second record and playback confirms the microphone and the speaker both work end-to-end. A test tone checks the output device on its own. The detail panel shows sample rate, channel count, and whether echo cancellation, noise suppression, and automatic gain control are active.
It gives a specific, actionable message for the common failures rather than a raw browser error: permission denied, no microphone found, the microphone already in use by another application, and a device producing no sound at all. It also flags Bluetooth headsets, which can mute themselves at the hardware level or drop to a lower quality profile when the microphone is in use.
Open this tool in its own tab. Browsers do not allow embedded pages to use a microphone, so it will not work inside another page. The tool detects this and offers a button to open itself in a new tab.
Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere unless Record is pressed, and that recording stays on the local machine.
This is a snapshot, not a source of truth. It checks the browser and the device in use at that moment. A headset that passes here can still fail in a call if it is switched, unplugged, or muted by its own hardware button.
